Because Atrophic Rhinitis is such an uncommonly heard of or seen disease globally there have been many debates concerning treatment, cause and management. There is no set pr standard way to treat the disease because of its rarity.
There are quite a few surgical and medical methods that has been attempted, but time along with several different therapies would have to be undergone to see any signs of improvement. Relapse is always possible even if the sufferer thinks they have been cured, and it is quite possibly very contagious when exposed for a period of time to an infected person. Studies show that one person infected seven after an overnight stay.
This is a severe disease that will effect the infected individuals every aspect of life. This disease is centered on the nasal cavities, walls and sinuses. The person who suffers from Atrophic Rhinitis will generally have a very pungent and almost intolerable smell, though oftentimes they themselves do not smell it because of damage done by the disorder
There is usually a primary and a secondary cause underlining the reception of this disease. Some of the issues are sinus surgery that is followed by radiation, infectious diseases and super-infections. There are some less commonly reported causes as well such as nasal trauma, radiation therapy and syphilis. The interesting fact is that Atrophic Rhinitis is more reported in medical intervention over developing countries climate conditions.
The disease dates back to its earliest recordings in the 1800′s known as open nose syndrome. Though treatments have changed over the years, the disease and its effects have not. It can range from mild to severe, and it is most common to the Arid part of the world. There are more cases found in the Middle East, Egypt, India and China than in other parts of the planet. Klebsialla Ozenae is the causative agent in most reported cases of Atrophic Rhinitis.
The smell of the individual is the most commonly recognized and often the first sign of the disease. Nasal crusting and social handicaps or depression due to the reactions received from others. Pregnancy, menstrual cycles and other hormonally changing conditions can cause the disease to get worse. It can be passed on through contact or exposure for long enough periods and it can be also hereditary.
There is a small minute chance that a person who suffers with a mild to moderate case of Atrophic Rhinitis can make a recovery. Those who do not recover mat find a management technique that works for them. Research and studies are being done in order to help those who suffer with little hope in the more serious to severe cases.
